BEST SUMMER EVER: NO PARENTS, NO RULES!

Redmond and his older brother Brendan spent the first month of summer out at at Mt. Hood – ALONE – No Parents, No Rules. YoBeat caught up with them and documented some of their experience. The video is below, but if you want to read the comments and check out some other cool videos (some with more clips of Redmond) here is a link to the site:

TALL TEES AND TACOS 2011

Redmond took first place in groms at Loveland’s TALL TEES AND TACOS this weekend, a super fun comp to cap off the season. Didn’t look like the end of the season though, plenty of powder and the snow was still coming down.

THE LAUNCH 2011 BONUS

Redmond got lucky again and was included in one of the Launch bonus shots on Snowboarder Mags website. Picture and comment below taken from site. Here’s the link if you want to check out all of the bonus shots:

Redmond wins the Banshee Bungee!

Excerpt from Yobeat:  https://www.yobeat.com/2011/04/07/peoples-court-connor-browntf-vs-ian-dodds-zdc/

A quick update to bring you up to date. Zach Rawles defeated Kai Wiggins in the final March battle (People’s Court), but fell a bit short in the vote count for a Banshee Bungee. Instead, that went to Mr. Red Gerard, who may have to grow into it, but will certainly make good use of it.

THE LAUNCH 2011 DAY 4 RECAP AND VIDEO

With all of the ridiculous action on-hill at Park City this week, it seemed almost fitting that things died down on the last day of The Launch. Not all of the riders showed up due to inclement weather, but the ones who did were treated to a morning pow session and an afternoon photo shoot on the V-tree and the pole jam to wallride.

Park Manager Jeremy Cooper and his crew even took some pow turns, which was refreshing to us all at SNOWBOARDER, because it further proved that although these guys are some of the most talented sculpters in the world, they’re snowboarders first and foremost. Around noon, about twenty riders gathered in the upper portion of the course as the sun started to show. Hans and Nils Mindnich, Caden Michnal, Blake Paul, Cam Fitzpatrick, Stefan Krumm, Kyle Mack, Ben Ferguson, Red Gerard, Griffin Siebert, Jack Herald, and a handful of others began sessioning, so Cooper and his cohorts fired up the sleds for a final finale and farewell of sorts.

Hans and Nils were bonking and redirecting. So was Kyle Mack. Griffin was tweaking like hell. You could hear his bindings squeaking from a hundred yards away. Bradshaw would’ve been proud. Red was pointing it at the tree, and barely getting enough speed to clear through the gap because of his small stature. However, the kid’s got style. And he’s only ten. Red is the real deal. The two bangers went to Cam Fitzpatrick, who one-footed through the V, and Caden Michnal, who backflipped through the thread-the-needle feature. The photos are sick, and were a proper reminder of the event. Day and night, rain, shine, or cloud cover, no matter the conditions, these kids just want to ride and get in front of the lens. That’s what makes The Launch special, and what went down at Park City was absolutely no exception. Wait for the print feature in our second issue of the season (September), and feast your eyes on the future generation of über-shreds.

After a day like yesterday, it was apparent that The Launch participants needed a little rest, and the weather on Thursday provided a little respite for the riders, as dumping snow and heavy wind at times hindered visibility and obliterated speed. It was a good day though. Mellow, fun, and manageable, as the young bucks sessioned the rail setup nearly all day. The closeout to dumpster bash was a favorite. 10-year old Redmond Gerard was the smallest but hungriest rider, hopping on to the back of the sled immediately after each run and never waiting to drop. Our Senior Photographer E-Stone actually went up to young Red and asked him if he wanted to shoot a sequence, to which Red replied, “What’s a sequence?” Pretty classic.

Heather Russell, a 10 year-old YouTube star has just been signed by Simon Cowell and is even being dubbed as “The Next Mariah Carey.” If that’s the case, then what would we dub 10 year-old Redmond Gerard? “The Next Kyle Mack?” R: Red Gerard P: Huggy

Word has it that Red Gerard starred in a new Disney reality series called “Winter’s Next X.” Hmmm. Haven’t seen it. R: Red Gerard P: E-Stone

Sure, Red Gerard is a skinny little fella, but give him a few years and he’ll get much phatter. R: Red Gerard P: E-Stone

The Launch – Park City, UT

Redmond is quite honored to be a part of Snowboarder Magazine’s 2011, The Launch. Some of the world’s best riders, Mark McMorris, Sebastien Toutant, and Sage Kotsenburg are here and Red is having the time of his life. Today was the helicopter shoot and it was pretty cool watching riders flying off massive jumps just below a whirling helicopter. If you don’t know what the Launch is, check out this link:

Aspen Redbull Buttercup – More like the Redbull Blizzard Cup!

The Redbull Buttercup was held at Buttermilk today in Aspen, but soon after the guys set up a storm blew in of mega proportions. Everything got blown down (or away), one guy with a big umbrella even got carried away (20 feet or so). Even the X-Games sign blew down, thankfully no one was under it. So much for a sun shining, bands playing, t-shirts and goggle tans kind of closing day!  The result was an all groups combined quickie version, but no one seemed to mind. Redmond made it to the top 5 for finals, but did not podium, maybe next year.

Redmond wins Best Grom at Park City Trans Am

Redmond Gerard was killing the course and took home the grom award.

…The contest began with 98 registered competitors.  Straight from the beginning the riding was off to an insane start.  With in the first 15 minutes Christian Hobush had already board-slid, nose-pressed, and front board-slid the Anon feature.  Other riders like Ozzy Henning, and Shelby Layman took to the Zumiez couch feature as well as the Ride feature.  Also can’t forget to mention Red Girard who was completely annihilating everything in his path; pretty impressive riding from such a tiny human.  He took top grom and received a High Cascade backpack with some goggles from Anon, and hoodie from Giro, and some Coal beanies.

But at the end of the day it was down to three guys, and three girls, as well as a top grom, and best trick…

Sierra at Tahoe Gatorade Free Flow

On a bright sunny Sunday morning in Tahoe, the Gatorade Free Flow was held at Sierra. Redmond took first place at the Junior Jam Rail Jam.

1st Place, men’s open, at Northstar’s, THE STASH GATHERING

You may have to squint here, but yes there is Red flying over the house (takes after his older brother Brendan), just one of many cool features at Northstar’s, “The Stash”. Redmond took first place in the Men’s Open division while having the time of his life. He absolutely loved Burton’s addition to the mountain!

RED DOES DISNEY!

Redmond, Danny Kass and Nik Baden, while in Aspen filming ESPN/Disney’s Next X

In December Redmond received an early Christmas present, a phone call from Disney asking if he was interested in doing a reality show called, Next X. Since it was an opportunity that most kids only get to dream about, a quick “YA” was Red’s response. Redmond and the family got 2 all expenses paid trips to Aspen. The first trip was to film the majority of the show. The second trip was to come back for the X-Games where Red finished filming by meeting the riders, handing out medals, riding the courses (including the half pipe under the lights) and VIP credentials for Red and the whole family. It was an experience of a lifetime!

Interview at Vail for Fuel TV

While in Vail competing in men’s slopestyle at the Gatorade Free Flow, Redmond got the opportunity to be interviewed by Don Tyler from Fuel TV. What a cool guy, and it turns out that Don lives in the town right next to where Red started the first half of his life (and still has many many family members), Rocky River, Ohio. Small world.
