SUPERPARK 17 – DAY 5 PHOTO….and finally… DAY 5 VIDEO

Red’s first Superpark has come to an end. As with all Snowboarder Mag events, he had a blast. Thanks to everyone who helped get him where he needed to be. I know you’ll probably never read this, but special thanks to Frankie, Red’s Burton TM, and of course Pat and T-Bird for giving Red a shot at getting to do what he loves! Here is a last shot from Day 5.

If they ever put some photos up, I will share with you Red’s win at the Gerry Lopez Big Wave Challenge, which took place at Bachelor the day after Superpark ended. Red took first in the Keiki division (16 and under). He LOVES the trophy!

Here is the Day 5 video, Spencer Schubert and Red switch boards in the opening, there’s another shot of Red at 2:08, but check out what Scotty Vine does for the ender, pretty incredible!

Superpark 17 – Day 4

Red decided not to participate in the final webcast yesterday. SNOWBOARDER Magazine’s Battle of the Brands gives out a trip to Cabo for the best team edit from Superpark, and Red was eager to be a part of Burton’s attempt to best them all. Unfortunately the filming session was cut short by the threat of lightening – on to the skatepark! Red is looking forward to a last day on the hill just cruising with friends today. Saturday Red will take part in the Gerry Lopez Big wave Challenge at Mt. Bachelor.

No pictures of Red today for Day 4, but in gathering final thoughts about the significance of Superpark (which in my mind is growing bigger every year and the addition of the webcast only helps to elevate it by allowing snowboard enthusiasts a chance to get in on the action) he was mentioned in the recap. Words, SnowboarderMag:

There aren’t many places—scratch that, there’s no other places—where you can watch Seb Toots, Dylan Alito, Roope Tonteri, and Red Gerard session a hip together

Superpark 17 – Day 3 Video

Since this site is supposed to be a gathering of info and photos on Red I will open up with some words from the Day 3 recap on SnowboarderMag‘s site. To read the recap in it entirety (strongly recommended) just click on the link:

This may have been one of the gnarliest sessions I have ever seen in real life. The Mindnich brothers once again provided a solid offering, lapping the hip countless times with back rodeo Taipans from Hans and huge front 360 stalefishes from Nils. Garrett Warnick landed an impressive back seven, along with a smooth back five melon to crystal method. Kim-Rune Hansen was destroying, along with Charles Reid, Annie Boulanger, Sam Taxwood, Austen Sweetin, Zach Normandin, and little Red Gerard, who all put down serious hammers time and time again.

Hope you all are enjoying the live webcasts. Day 3’s action was crazy, with incredible performances from Hans and Nils Mindnich, Sam Taxwood and others. Roope Tonteri had multiple attempts at a double Michalchuk but couldn’t seem to put it down until the webcast finally decided to close up shop. But of course, as soon they did Roope stomped it. Luckily it is captured here in the ender of the Day 3 video. Check out Red and his friends Gabe and Brock one right after the other in the opening, and another shot at about 3:30.

Superpark 17 – Day 2 Video

Superpark 17

The first live webcast of Superpark 17 has gone down. What an exciting way to get those of us not skilled enough to be up there, in on the action. If you missed it, I am told it will be available to replay, I will post a link when it is posted. 25 riders were selected to participate on the jump created by Loon Mountain and we saw some amazing stuff get thrown. Red said he almost threw his double but then the lighting got flat and it started to rain, maybe another day (I am told that a full part edit including Red’s double was just completed so stay tuned on that front). Make sure not to miss days 2 and 3 of the live webcast, starting at 1:30 PST today and same time on Thursday as well. Want to check out the Day 2 video? Just click on the “Home” tab for all the latest posts. Below is a photo from Day 2, both are taken directly from SnowboarderMag‘s site:

SNOWBOARDERMAG’S 2013 LAUNCH “SUPERGROMS” EDIT

942110_649172848441460_1643944353_nWords take directly from Snowboarder Mag‘s site:

Once again The Launch proved itself to be the most important event in snowboarding for showcasing up and coming talent. The level of riding that went down at Bear was all time with some seriously next level tricks going down at an almost minute by minute basis. One of the most impressive things about this year’s Launch however was how hard the younger crew pushed things, not content to just lap the public park and jib the sides of the jumps, this year’s Supergrom crew packed up and snaked their way into sessions along side the older crew on the hips, jibs and big jumps. While a lot of older kids sat down or found reasons not to hit things the younger squad led by Red Gerard, Cody Warble, Gabe Ferguson, and Brock Crouch had the time of their lives at Bear riding everything and often times packing up and hitting everything together. We dubbed them the “Supergroms” and as you watch this try to think just what you were doing at 12 years old.

So it’s Spring and that means park footage. In this case it means park footage from Hobo Headwear, whatever that is. Feel free to skip most of the video because it was edited on an iPhone and you’ll never know when Red Gerard is even riding. Check out :40, :43 and 2:25 for highlights. The rest is just stuff good kids do in the park these days.

THE LAUNCH – DAY 4 RECAP

As usual, it is always sad to see the Launch wrap up. It is such an awesome event. Riders push themselves, get creative and share in both camaraderie and a whole lot of fun!

T-Bird wrote a nice summation of the event that you should really go check out at Snowboarder Mag. I will paste the parts pertaining to Red below, but you are doing yourself a disservice if you don’t read it in its entirety.

…With The Launch, the ultimate objective is to assemble the world’s best riders under the age of 21 not only in order to introduce themselves to their peers and get a chance to lap with those they might never have the chance to, but also to provide a unique and inviting setup to allow these kids to think outside the box and expand their vision of what snowboarding is and can be…

In the afternoon, what may be the most varied session of the event went down. With some of the riders lagging from three long days on hill, the stragglers were intermingled on a hip session and they included Jordan Smalls, Red Gerard, Toby Miller, Milo Malkoski, Zach Normandin, Ezra Racine, Matt Penny, Jacob Krugmire, Chris Bradshaw, Lucas Magoon, Ryan Tarbell, Jacob Aaronson, and a few other kids leftover helping finish off the event. Let me tell you one thing. I you’ve ever had the chance to watch a session with Gooner, Bradshaw, Red Gerard, and Toby Miller, then you’re one lucky reader. Everyone was pushing each other in very odd ways, evidenced by Bradshaw opting to air out twenty feet over the deck while tweaking like only he can. The hip session turned a mellow day into one of the most productive of the four and at the day’s end, we called the event around four to let everyone rest up and heal.

…These are the kids that are tomorrow’s opinion leaders, trend setters, video part ender producers, contest juggernauts, and product pushers. These are the kids that will save snowboarding, and as the mainstream media continues to claim that snowboarding is simply a fad and it will soon go away, I personally know about eighty kids that couldn’t disagree more, and they’re dead set on proving the naysayers wrong. In other words, The Launch 2013 Presented by Volcom may be done, but this is just the beginning of something very, very big.

SNOWBOARDER MAG – THE LAUNCH – DAY 3

Here is an abbreviated version of the words and pics, taken directly from Snowboarder Mag‘s site. To get the whole story, and see all the great shots, go to SnowboarderMag.com

words: Mary Walsh

…Over the past six years, SNOWBOARDER Magazine has hand-selected cadres of up and coming riders and worked with some of the best park builders in the US to create playgrounds progressive enough to compliment the level of talent. Many young snowboarders have set the first flag of their snowboarding career within the run-ins and landings of The Launch parks. Mark McMorris, Tyler Flanagan, Garrett Warnick, Jamie Anderson, Sage Kotsenburg, Trevor Jacob, Greg Bretz, Sarka Pancochova, Johnny Lazz, Seb Toots, Forest Bailey, Zak Hale, Stale Sandbech, and more have all made turns at the Launch.

…The youngest snowboarders at The Launch sped through the park all day with boundless energy. Hour after hour, Cody Warble, Brock Crouch, Red Gerard, Toby Miller, and crew lapped the park in a tight collective, airing effortlessly out of the hip, sessioning the double rail on the smaller quarterpipe, and throwing snowballs at one another. These kids, half as tall as many of the other riders at The Launch, are next level. They boosted one-by-one over the bottom jump, a line of brightly-colored sweatshirts and black helmets, with style far beyond their years riding. If the abilities first wave of Launch groms are any indication of the future of this current crew, we’re more than excited to watch them grow up, and maybe blow up.

The last day of The Launch is tomorrow and the enders are going to be good. Follow #TheLaunch2013 on Instagram and check SNOWBOARDER Magazine’s Facebook page for updates…

Red Gerard was a clear winner for the Pint Sized Ripper Award, but his riding was larger than life.  With huge airs over the Anon Optics pyramid, Red couldn’t be stopped.  He was even still strapped in for awards and dropped in to pick up his prize.

MS SUPERPARK 2013 PRESENTED BY GATORADE – DAY 2 VIDEO

Red was lucky enough to be able to attend Snowboarder Mag’s, Ms. Superpark at Keystone. Red got to be jump tester for the girls, a position he was quite happy to fulfill.

On day 2 Pat (Pat Bridges is the editor at Snowboarder Mag) asked Red to interview a few of the girls. He also provided him with some creeper questions, throwing the girls off who were not expecting questions like that from a 12 year old. Here is the interview from Snowboarder Mag‘s site:
